Members, families and volunteers of the Coastal Georgia Council: The Coastal Georgia Council will continue…
The Coastal Georgia Council reviews the COVID-19 information provided by our national and state health experts daily and, at the same time, is communicating with other BSA councils for the best direction regarding our local Scouting operations. We have all learned that the temperament of this pandemic and related medical recommendations creates unpredictable scenarios and therefore finding balance to move forward can be problematic when planning events and activities. Paramount to any decisions, is the safety of our scouts, volunteers and employees.
Cub Scout Spring Adventures
We were very hopeful, but the circumstances will not allow. Therefore, Cub Scout Spring Adventures weekend has been POSTPONED and will be rescheduled or redesigned as a summer event to be held in July. New information and registration will be provided eminently on our Coastal Georgia Council website, Facebook page and this weekly E-Blast.
Summer Camp at Black Creek Scout Reservation
Our April 29 update (available on our website), communicated the desire of our Troop leaders to attend summer camp in 2020 and we remain on track to open as scheduled. Our Ranger, Camp Director, Dining Hall Manager, Professional Staff and Executive Committee are all diligently preparing to offer the outdoor experience, merit badge sessions and scouting adventure that only camp offers a young person.
Our team has been personally calling units to share logistics and enhanced safety measures specific to COVID-19. Your Troop leadership should have also received an update letter / email from our Ranger and Council Key Three last week with preliminary safety expectations. If you have not spoken with our team, email firstname.lastname@example.org who will immediately offer assistance.
Changes to our Camp Leader’s Guide with COVID-19 requirements will be provided to the Summer Camp unit leaders beginning Monday, May 18th which will allow our Camp time to understand and implement the latest civil authority recommendations.
For troops that are attending out of council camps we understand most all Georgia, SC and some NC camps are planning to open but may be delaying by a week or two. Please communicate directly with that camp. Should a rescheduling impact your unit, again email email@example.com who will help you get registered at Black Creek if we can help provide a summer camp experience.
Council and District Meetings and Activities
All Council and District Meetings and Activities remain postponed and or canceled through midnight on Sunday May 17, 2020.
Individual Unit Activities and Camping
Individual pack, troop, crew, posts and ship units may make their own independent decisions regarding meetings and activities, but they MUST be in compliance with their chartered organization. We know some church denominations have specific directives. Your unit would fall under their purview in addition to the guidance of our federal, state and local civil authorities. In all cases, the council defers to parents and guardians who may adopt additional, self-imposed guidelines. Families always decide if their children should participate in unit activities or meetings depending on their comfort level.
Scout Service Center and Shops
The Scout Service Center and our Scout Shops in Savannah and Brunswick will reopen to the public for business on Monday, May 18, 2020. 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Precautions have been installed to help protect you and our team members and we ask that you follow our protocol by remaining in the designated Scout Shop area.
As a reminder, you can continue to order your scout supplies and needs from our Council Scout Shops anytime by calling 912 – 662 – 6891 or email, firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be glad to fill your order and either have it ready to pick-up in the store, at curb side or mailed to your home or office.
Keep the Campfires Burning
Many of our volunteers, families and leaders have asked how can we help or do more since family FOS campaigns were canceled? It is true, our Coastal Georgia Council’s schedule of spring fundraising has been severely impacted just like your church and other institutions dependent on donations. IF you can, please click on this link (https://scoutingevent.com/099-donate) and consider a gift of any level to help our council regain our momentum so we can continue to offer services, organized activities, and support to the youth and units we are privileged to serve.
In addition, please reference the other links below for Camp Card sales extensions. We have been assured by Trails Ends Popcorn that all is well and on target for a normal fall sale which will help replenish your unit accounts.
THANK YOU for your understanding and patience and we continue to hope and pray that everyone in your circle of friends and family remain healthy and safe.
From everyone at the Scout Service Center, you have our greatest regards,
