About the Coastal Georgia Council

Serving Southeast Georgia since 1910

The Coastal Georgia Council was chartered on March 1, 2014, with the merger of the former Coastal Empire (Savannah) and Okefenokee (Waycross) Councils, but has served Southeast Georgia since Boy Scouting’s inception in 1910.

Since 1910, Boy Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of the local communities by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes and, through over a century of experience, understands that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Today more than 5,000 youth and families are served annually in 22 counties including Appling, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham,  Effingham, Evans, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Screven, Tattnall, Toombs, Ware, and Wayne.

The Coastal Georgia Council is organized into five service areas called districts and through those districts grants charters to civic, faith-based, business, and community organizations called units.  These units are referred to as Cub Scout Packs, Scout BSA Troops, Venture Crews, Sea Scout Ships, Exploring Posts, STEM Scouts, and Learning for Life Groups.

The Scouting program is delivered through these units using various aims and methods that are time tested and values-based at supported by the Coastal Georgia Scout Service Center, Black Creek Scout Reservation and Camp Tolochee.
